Bikeability
Bikeability is today’s cycle training programme, based on the National Standard for Cycle Training. It’s about gaining practical skills and understanding how to cycle on today’s roads. Bikeability gives everyone the skills and confidence for all kinds of cycling.
There are three Bikeability levels, each designed to improve cycling skills, no matter what is known already. Levels 1, 2 and 3 take trainees from the basics of balance and control, all the way to planning and making an independent journey on busier roads.
Bikeability Level 1 aims to develop cycle handling in an off-road environment and prepare riders for cycling on the road. Riders must be able to cycle (i.e. pedal and glide) to participate in Bikeability Level 1.
Bikeability Level 2 will develop riders’ skills and confidence for cycling on single-lane roads and simple junctions with mostly moderate motor traffic flows, preparing riders to deal with short journeys such as cycling to school or the local shops.
Bikeability Level 3 equips riders with the skill and confidence to ride in more challenging roads and traffic situations – busier streets, queuing traffic, complex junctions and roundabouts. It also includes planning routes for safe cycling.
The Active Communities Team work in partnership with the Road Safety Team from Denbighshire County Council to offer these courses. Level 1 and 2 is offered to all Year 6 pupils in Primary Schools in Denbighshire.

The mission is to unite partners from different sectors across North Wales and work collaboratively towards this common goal. The aim is to have a greater impact by working together for the people of North Wales and the communities we live in. This means promoting and supporting clubs and activity providers, test and pilot new ways of working and securing long term funding for the region, whilst being a powerful collective voice for North Wales
