At Denbighshire Leisure we pride ourselves on providing high quality, accessible opportunities to improve the wellbeing of Denbighshire’s’ residents.

As part of this commitment we are pleased to be part of the Welsh Government’s Health Weight Healthy Wales (HWHW) Action Plan which supports us to offer a new scheme specifically for over 60’s which will encourage physical activity and healthy life choices, for those people not currently active.

New opportunities for 60+ group

Gentle Circuits – A moderate intensity, all over body work out which can be adapted to suit your ability. Targets upper and lower body strength, aerobic fitness, mobility and flexibility. All exercises are functional and help to improve ability to perform everyday tasks

Why is exercise important?

Regular physical activity and exercise for helps improve mental and physical health, both of which will help you maintain your independence as you age. Physical exercise improves strength, balance, mobility and endurance levels helping to prevent falls and certain disease. Physical exercise can lift our mood and make us happy.

Being active as we get older

Continuing to exercise as we get older, is vitally important.

Regular activity can lower your risk of heart disease, stroke, some cancers, depression and dementia.

Being active –

  • helps your thinking skills – like remembering facts and words, problem-solving and decision-making.
  • can lessen aches and pains, help you stay steady on your feet and make you feel more positive.
  • can help with your balance which helps with coordination which in turn benefits every day activities such as walking, carrying shopping, reach up to the higher shelves and getting dressed.

Suitable activities could include walking, swimming, low impact fitness classes, a personalised gym programme, walking football, yoga and Pilates.
