About Assist Fit

DLL have worked in partnership with an organisation called Innerva – who are the UK’s only ‘Power Assisted Exercise’ fitness equipment manufacturer dedicated to our older (and specialist rehab/long-term conditions) populations (https://www.innerva.com/)

  • Unsupervised sessions – these sessions will not have a member of staff present in the Assist Fit room.
  • Induction sessions – everyone who wants to use Assist Fit, must have an onsite induction with our Assist Fit Instructor. During the induction you will be shown how to use all the equipment in a safe way, and discuss if there are any reasons why you shouldn’t use a piece of equipment.  You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions.
You may see times of the day which are not available to book. This is when we have sessions on as part of our National Exercise Referral Scheme.

Assist Fit Equipment

Cross Cycle – Target areas: Arms, Shoulders, chest, abdominals, glutes

Promotes lower limb movement, and flexion and extension of the upper limbs. This exercise will promote strengthening of the thigh and shoulder muscles and improves aerobic fitness.

Seated Climber – Target areas: Arms, shoulders, lumbar spine, abdominals , waist, legs

A cardiovascular machine which exercises both the upper and lower extremity, helping to shape and strengthen the larger muscle groups of the upper back. The seated climber also helps to improve posture.

Chest & Legs– Target areas: Chest, arms, shoulders, lumbar spine, abdominals, waist, legs and glutes

Assists flexion and extension of all four limbs. The push down action of the legs will strengthen the thigh and buttock muscles. The rowing action of the arms will strengthen the arm and shoulder muscles.

Ab Pullover – Target areas: Chest, arms, shoulders, lumbar spine, stomach, waist, hips

The Ab Pullover provides a combination of stretching and strengthening which helps to improve shoulder and hip flexibility, and strengthen the muscles of the abdomen and back.

Tricep Dip & Leg Curl – Target area: Arms, shoulders, back, stomach, waist, hips, front and back thighs

A multifunctional machine combining different functions that exercise different body parts. Upper body functions include an arm curl and bicep extension combination for the front of the upper arm, a reverse curl and triceps pushdown for the back of the upper arms. An upright row and reverse row for the trapezius and neck muscles is also possible as is a leg extension for the quadriceps and a leg curl for the hamstrings.

Side Bend Stepper – Target areas: Arms, shoulders, lower back, waist, glutes, hip, legs and abdominals

Exercise for major muscle groups, works the heart and lungs helping to raise energy levels and increase oxygen supply to the cells. Helps to improve co-ordination.

Rotary Torso – Target areas: Arms, shoulders, back, stomach, waist, hips, inner/outer thighs

Assists in the rotation of the trunk, hips and shoulders. Rotation of the trunk is one of the first movements to decline as part of the ageing process. This is further accelerated in people with neurological changes. Reduced trunk rotation leads to loss of arm swing during walking, reduced balance, back pain and stiffness. The Rotary Torso helps to reverse or minimise these changes.

Flys & Thighs – Target areas: Chest, arms, waist, lumbar spine, hip, glutes, legs, abdominals, inner and outer thighs

Firms inner and outer thighs, helps to strengthen and shape the chest and shoulders, and increases mobility in the hip and shoulder joints. The upper body performs an upright fly exercise targeting the pectorals. Simultaneously, legs are performing abductor and adductors exercises, working the hips and thighs.

Tummy Crunch – Target areas: Abdominals, waist, lower back, legs, hips and glutes

Multifunctional machine provides an abdominal crunch exercise combined with a torso extension. Tightens the abdominal area, while protecting and strengthening the lower back.

General Guidance

Clothing – loose, comfortable clothing and socks, no belts, jeans vest tops or scarves. Avoid overly baggy clothing such as long cardigans which can get caught in the machines. You do not need to wear specialist gym clothes.
Footwear – ideally wear clean footwear, no bare feet or loose sandals.
Jewellery – clients should not wear jewellery which could cause damage to the machine or to the client e.g. bracelets or long necklaces.
Personal belongings – these can be stored in the storage space provided in the Assist fit room.
No food or hot drinks should be consumed in the Assist Fit room, only water.
