Our team of aquatic experts offer enjoyable and engaging courses, where you will learn to develop your knowledge of planning and delivering lessons, and how to effectively support learners to progress their skills. Each course takes 3-5 days, and you’ll be assessed through both the completion of written work and practical teaching assessments.
We run a hugely popular Learn to Swim Programme, as well as school swimming programmes, so becoming a qualified Swimming Teacher with us means you have an opportunity to start your Swimming Teacher journey straight away. STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming
Duration: 5 days
Cost: £475
The Award is the first step towards becoming a fully qualified Swimming Teacher. You’ll learn the fundamentals for to teaching safe, engaging and progressive swimming lessons. This course will teach you the essential swimming skills and how these help a learner develop the basic techniques for the 4 swimming strokes. You will also cover health and safety, communication, safeguarding, motivation and feedback, how to effectively plan and deliver classes to a range of abilities. Upon completion of those course, you will be able to teach non-swimmers up to intermediate swimmers.
Our courses include 1 year of your STA Membership too, and our team will get you set up as part of your registration onto the course.
Course requirements:
- You must be at least 16 years old
- You don’t need any previous qualifications or experience, just a love of water!
STA Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Swimming
Duration: 4 days
Cost: £425
The Certificate is the natural next step in your Swimming Teacher journey, once you’ve gained your Award. As part of this course, you will develop your knowledge to be able to teach advanced learners. You will learn advanced swimming skills, develop your knowledge of the 4 competitive swimming strokes, and increase your skills in planning and delivering engaging and fun lessons that help intermediate to advanced learners progress. The Level 2 Certificate also provides you with knowledge and skills on teaching adult swimmers, ensuring you are confident in the differences between teaching children and adults.
Our courses include 1 year of your STA Membership too, and our team will get you set up as part of your registration onto the course.
Course requirements:
- You must be at least 16 years old
- You will need to have passed the STA Level 2 Award in Swimming Teaching
STA Baby and Pre-School Swimming Award
Duration: 3 days
Cost: £425
The Baby and Pre-School Swimming Award is for those wanting to work with babies, toddlers, and young infants. You don’t need to have a Swimming Teacher qualification already, or any experience in teaching swimming. However, you might choose to do this course after qualifying as a Swimming Teacher, so you can specialise or expand your class options.
On this course you will learn how to work with infants from 3 months up to 4 years old. This course will teach you the essential baby swimming skills, the core holds, child development, and how to recognise the needs of different young ages to effectively deliver classes that suit the needs of both the parent/carers and the children. You will also cover health and safety, communication, safeguarding, motivation and feedback, how to effectively plan and deliver classes to a range of abilities.
Our courses include 1 year of your STA Membership too, and our team will get you set up as part of your registration onto the course.
Course requirements:
- You must be at least 18 years old
- You will need to hold the Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults online learning certificate or acceptable equivalent
STA Level 2 Award in Aquatic Teaching – People with Disabilities
Duration: 3 days
Cost: £425
The People with Disabilities Swimming Award is for those wanting to work with individuals who have additional needs or a disability. You don’t need to have a Swimming Teacher qualification already, or any experience in teaching swimming. However, you might choose to do this course after qualifying as a Swimming Teacher, so you can specialise or expand your class options.
On this course you will learn how to plan and deliver fun, and engaging classes that are suited to a range of individuals and needs. This course will teach you the essential holds to support learners, the use of a variety of aids and equipment, how to adapt swimming strokes, and how to help learners progress. You will also cover health and safety, communication, safeguarding, motivation and feedback, how to effectively plan and deliver classes to a range of abilities.
Our courses include 1 year of your STA Membership too, and our team will get you set up as part of your registration onto the course.
Course requirements:
- You must be at least 18 years old
- Hold the Safety Award for Teachers qualification or acceptable equivalent
Hold the Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults online learning certificate or acceptable equivalent

What to bring for your course
If you’ve booked onto a Swimming Teacher course, please remember to bring the following:
- Appropriate teaching attire – shorts, t-shirt and suitable poolside footwear (no flip-flops)
- Swimming kit and towel. You may wish to bring two sets as you will be in and out of the water
- Your photo ID
- Pen and paper for taking notes throughout the classroom sessions
- Water bottle and lunch
