Community Leadership
The Young Ambassador Programme
The Young Ambassador programme aims to see young people driving opportunity, engagement and change for other young people, using sport as a catalyst to do so.
It is designed to build the leadership skills of young people and as a result they are empowered to take on the following roles.
Sport Leaders UK
Sport Leaders UK are a governing body who deliver awards to develop leadership and life skills in young people. All their qualifications equip young people with valuable and essential employability skills, with focus on the following:
- Communication
- Self-belief
- Teamwork
- Self-management
- Problem solving
The Sport Leaders courses are designed to develop confident, healthy leaders through sport and physical activity. Effective communication and organisation are two important skills the course looks to develop to help candidates learn to lead basic physical activities for younger people, their peers, older generation and out in the community.
Level 1 & Level 2 Courses
Each award looks at the differences between skills and behaviours, and how we can apply them to a practical environment in sport, but also how they can be used in a work environment, school, with friends and at home with family. The challenge of a Sport Leader Candidate would be to try and develop certain skills, which need improving, throughout the duration of the course whether it is during an on course delivery or off course through volunteering. Students will plan, lead and evaluate sports/physical activity sessions over a number of tutored hours and then demonstrate their leadership skills as part of their assessment.
PLAYMAKER AWARD
The PlayMaker Award is a great introduction into leadership for pupils or students aged nine and over.
The award is designed for use in a variety of education settings as a 6 hour course and focuses on developing learners’ leadership skills. Each pupil will receive a certificate upon completing the course.
