Rounders and Cricket festivals, Women’s Euro football events, multi-sport sessions, and family fun days, are just a few of the free events that the DLL Active Communities Sport team have run and been part of this summer, bringing a summer of fun to children and residents of Denbighshire.

The DLL Active Community Sports team held Rounders and Cricket festivals for Primary schools at Ruthin Cricket Club, in partnership with the club and Cricket Wales, which saw over 80 children at each event, enjoying rounders and cricket for free. Earlier in the Summer the DLL Active Communities Sports team organised two events around the Women’s Euro, with over thirty partner organisations involved, including; Hwb Dinbych, the Urdd, DCC Play and Youth Services,  Adra Housing, St Asaph City Striders running Club, DCC Housing, Families First, Prestatyn Athletic FC, Menter Iaith, Prestatyn Running Club. The aim of these events was to use the power of football and impact of the Women’s Euros 2025 to tackle inequalities across Denbighshire.

The DLL team welcomed over 300 people across the celebratory festivals and community-led activities, which was made possible by funding from Welsh Government.

Jamie Groves, Managing Director of Denbighshire Leisure Ltd (DLL) said: “It has been a fantastic summer so far with incredible feedback from the community attending these free events. Our Active Communities Sports team work really hard to put these events on and ensure all residents have a brilliant time and keep active at the same time. And, the summer isn’t over yet! We have a whole host of free activities coming your way before the end of the Summer holidays. Working with our partners, we have a sports Beach festival in Rhyl, family rounders day in Corwen and a family run morning in Prestatyn, plus so much more, and they’re all free to attend!”

From Llangollen to Prestatyn, the team have been involved and hosted thirty free events for the community. Weekly sessions in partnership with DCC Play and Brighter Futures have taken place in Rhyl and multisport sessions in partnership with Hwb Ddinbych and Denbigh Youth Project in Denbigh.
