Denbighshire County Council and DLL (Denbighshire Leisure Ltd) are joining communities across Wales in supporting the Welsh Blood Service as it celebrates its 80th birthday.
 
On 26 September 2026, the Welsh Blood Service will mark 80 years of blood donation in Wales – eight decades of people giving their time to help save and improve the lives of others.
 
To mark this important milestone, DLL will be lighting up its buildings and attractions in red, helping to create a ‘red Wales’ in recognition of the thousands of people across the country who give blood, platelets and stem cells.
 
Jamie Groves, Managing Director of Denbighshire Leisure Limited, said: “We’re delighted to support the Welsh Blood Service as it celebrates 80 years of blood donation in Wales. Blood donation is something that touches communities across the country, with every donation having the potential to make a life-changing difference to someone and their family. Lighting up our buildings in red is a small but meaningful way for us to show our support and help raise awareness of the incredible contribution made by blood, platelet and stem cell donors. We’re proud to play our part in this special celebration and hope the sight of our buildings lit up in red will encourage people to find out more about becoming a donor.”
 
The Director of Welsh Blood Service, Alan Prosser said: “Our 80th birthday belongs to every donor who has ever given their time, commitment and blood to help someone they may never meet. It belongs to every family member who has supported their loved ones to keep coming back. It belongs to every colleague, past and present, who has dedicated their skills, compassion and professionalism to helping patients across Wales.”
