The first ever RNLI BeachROX event, supported by DLL, took place last weekend on Rhyl Events Arena and Rhyl beach, to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of RNLI lifeguards.

The successful community eventwhich was just one of a wider programme of activities celebrating the 25th anniversary of RNLI Lifeguards in 2026, took place at Rhyl Lifeboat Station between 4pm and 9pm, on Saturday 15th August in Rhyl, with a fantastic turnout.

BeachROX was a Hyrox inspired beach challenge combining endurance, functional fitness and RNLI lifeboat and lifeguard elements with over 80 participants taking part.

Participants were tested on their strength, stamina and determination, and they joined in enthusiastically regardless of whether they came along for some fun with friends, or were looking for a real fitness challenge.

To help support this fantastic event, DLL provided a range of its top fitness equipment, and the RNLI team were joined on the day by one of DLL’s motivating and inspirational fitness instructors.  Every participant who completed the event received a voucher for DLL’s flagship restaurant, 1891.

Lucy Tilston, Lead Lifeguard Supervisor said “On Saturday we held our very first BeachROX event at Rhyl Lifeboat Station, with more than 85 participants taking on the challenging course of 8 x 1km runs, each combined with a functional exercise inspired by key lifeguarding activities.  We were delighted to be joined by influencers Jamie Ayshford and Alexandra Huffen, who both took part in and supported the event. The day was a huge success, and we couldn’t have done it without the incredible support of our RNLI volunteers and the fantastic help from DLL, who worked alongside us throughout the event.  We’ve already had lots of people asking when the next one will be, so keep your eyes peeled on our Instagram: rnli_lifeguards_northwales for future updates!”

Jamie Groves, DLL MD said “Since the very first RNLI lifeguards were introduced 25 years ago, their teams have saved more than 2,000 lives across the UK.  With our stunning coastline being such an integral part of our lives here in Denbighshire, we are all grateful for the work the RNLI do on a daily basis.  As fitness is something we are passionate about at DLL, we were delighted to support this worthwhile event and are pleased that everyone had such a brilliant afternoon, whether they were taking part or cheering on friends or family.  The RNLI make a massive contribution to the community of Rhyl and we’re proud to have supported this afternoon to remember!”

For the past 25 years, RNLI Lifeguards have been helping to keep our coastlines safer. As part of the RNLI Lifeguard 25th Anniversary celebrations, RNLI are hoping to raise as many donations as possible to support their lifesaving work and help them continue saving lives for many years to come.
