DLL proud to be part of projects contributing to health and productivity in Wales
Over half a billion pound a year in health and productivity benefits in Wales has been identified by a report commissioned by Arts Council Wales (ACW).
The report highlighted the economic value of engaging in the arts in Wales, alongside the impact on health and wellbeing. DLL’s Community Arts team is proud to contribute to this with the delivery of a number of projects across Denbighshire to support health and wellbeing across the county.
The DLL Community Arts team is working in partnership with BCUHB on a number of mental health related projects, including one that delivers creative interventions for adults living with mental health challenges through the Umbrella Against the Rain programme. In partnership with the Central Child and Adolescent Mental Health Early Help services, a project will also be starting shortly in Denbighshire schools. This project will start at Rhyl High School and Ysgol Christchurch, before moving to Prestatyn High and Ysgol Bryn Hedydd and aims to support the health and wellbeing of pupils. With ACW Arts in Health funding, the team has also been delivering a programme of trauma informed workshops with resettled families and sanctuary seekers in Denbighshire.
The report entitled Assessing the Economic Impact of the Arts on Health and Healthcare Services in Wales is the first Wales-wide study that assesses the impact of the arts on health, wellbeing and also demand on NHS and social care services. The report found that ACW’s investment delivers £11.08 in health, wellbeing and productivity benefits for every £1 invested, which results in an estimated £588m a year in health and productivity benefits across Wales.
DLL Managing Director Jamie Groves said: “The arts continue to deliver tangible health benefits for people, and we are pleased to see there is a growing body of robust evidence to prove it. Through our Community Arts team we are making an important contribution to the wellbeing of residents within Denbighshire, and we are very proud that DLL continues to deliver this vital work within North Wales.”
The Community Arts team are also collaborating on intergenerational projects that support health and wellbeing, including a weekly community signing group in Llanrhaeadr in partnership with Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias Music Centre and a schools’ project with Ruthin and Denbigh Community Hospitals. South of the county, a project is underway called Afon Atgofion (A River of Memories) in partnership with South Denbighshire Community Partnership, Canolfan Ni, Pengwern, local schools and care homes.

DLL colleagues aim for Welsh Cup glory
Two colleagues from DLL (Denbighshire Leisure Ltd) will be aiming for glory when the semi-finals of the JD Welsh Cup take place on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th March.
Morgan Murray and Josh Jones, who work within DLL’s fitness and tourism teams will be representing different clubs in the semi-finals, but both will be determined to secure a place for their team in the prestigious JD Welsh Cup final on 15th April.
Morgan, a supervisor for DLL who plays for Tier 2 phoenix club, CPD Rhyl 1879, is immensely proud to be representing his home town at this stage of the competition. As a relatively new club, reaching the semi-finals is a huge achievement for Rhyl, bringing excitement not just to the Club, but to the local community. Morgan, who has always been passionate about football, manages his work/life balance with the support of employer DLL, and says of the forthcoming tie with Caernarfon Town ‘as a team we’ll be fully focused and confident we can cause another upset against a Cymru Premier side’
Josh, a leisure attendant at DLL’s Denbigh Leisure site, plays for Cymru Premier team Flint Town United, and has been playing football in the Welsh system since the age of 17. To have the opportunity to represent his club in the Welsh Cup semi-finals, and potentially in a final is naturally something that makes him incredibly proud. Josh is looking forward to Flint’s tie with Bangor 1876, he said: “hopefully Rhyl and Flint make it through to the final, and Morgan and I get to share the stage!”
Jamie Groves, DLL MD said “Everyone at DLL is extremely proud of both Morgan and Josh, and we can’t wait for the semi-finals. We love to see our employees following their passions and as a company will always do our best to support them, whether it’s with a professional aspiration or a personal dream. We wish them both the best of luck in the semi-finals, and fingers crossed will see them both in the final!”

Successful Open Days sees hundreds visit Prestatyn Leisure
Two days of fun free fitness activities at DLL’s Prestatyn Leisure attracted hundreds of young people from across the local area, all keen to get into fitness at Prestatyn’s brand new junior gym.
The two Fitness Open Days, created specifically for young people, were held on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st February, and with advertised sessions for both days fully booked up weeks in advance.
The site was buzzing across both days, with young people being the first to experience the new youth gym, as well as getting the chance to experience Prama, the interactive fitness studio, iGames, the interactive court, as well as Clip n Climb, the fantastic climbing walls.
In 2024, DLL successfully relaunched its Prestatyn Leisure site as the ultimate junior fitness hub in North Wales, with the launch of a range of innovative fitness activities, making the best of the very latest digital technology. The youth fitness hub has now been further extended to include a brand new gym, utilising an exciting range of Technogym equipment.
Young people taking part in the Fitness Open Days had a great time trying out this amazing new facility, and also took advantage of an exclusive discounted membership offer.
Further to the Prama studio’s success with high school pupils, DLL will now be expanding its timetable, offering instructor led sessions for junior members and local junior sports clubs. Exclusive fitness sessions in the new facility will also soon be available to members who have joined on the youth memberships as well as DLL’s Foundation Membership, a brand new membership category specifically created for those starting out on their fitness journey and looking for tailored support. A brand new Foundation programme, including taster sessions will be available at Prestatyn Leisure from this week (23rd Feb).
Jamie Groves, Managing Director of DLL, said: “It’s been fantastic to see so many people attend our Prestatyn Leisure Fitness Open Days. DLL has a long history of investing in Prestatyn; with the Nova, Beach Hut and Club Nova just some of our more recent successes. Over the past two years, we have been investing heavily for our future generations – creating a vibrant fitness hub for young people. The range of activities and innovation on offer at Prestatyn Leisure has been created to make physical activity fun, and to improve the health and wellbeing of our young people. At the start of the project, our aim was to establish Prestatyn Leisure as THE first junior fitness hub in North Wales, and with the success of the Fitness Open Days, I think we can say we have achieved that goal! Thanks to everyone who attended, we were delighted to share everything that Prestatyn Leisure has to offer, and hope to see a whole host of new young members joining us in the future.”
