Recipe book created in Denbighshire and NE Wales partnership for Refugee week
A recipe book has been created as part of resettlement project in North Wales, bringing together families from diverse backgrounds to share recipes and experiences.
DLL Community Arts team has collaborated with DCC Resettlement Team and North East Wales Community Cohesion team with grant support from Arts Council of Wales’s Arts, Health and Wellbeing Lottery funding to create a recipe book called From the World to Wales.
This cookbook celebrates connections through food, bringing people together, sharing memories, traditions and stories across generations and cultures. The book was created by families who have made their home in Wales and the recipes reflect the diversity of our community. Each dish tells a story of home, journeys, and new beginnings.
The families worked with artist Jude Wood over three months sharing stories and creating artwork and recipes for the book, inviting people to explore new flavours and experience the cultures and traditions behind every meal.
Jamie Groves, Managing Director of DLL, said: “Food brings everyone together and is great way to share experiences, cultures and stories across generations. This cookbook was developed as part of a resettlement project in North Wales, bringing together families from diverse backgrounds to share recipes and experiences. The project created opportunities for people to connect, build confidence, and celebrate their heritage. Together, this collection highlights the strength and diversity of the community and the power of food to bring people together.”
Ann Lloyd, Head of Adult Social Care and Homelessness said: “This project highlights the heart of the resettlement work we do in Denbighshire – helping people feel welcomed, connected and valued in their communities. ‘From the World to Wales’ is a powerful celebration of culture, resilience and shared experiences, and I’m proud to see such a meaningful collaboration bring people together in this way.”
Refugee Week this year runs between 15-21st June and is the world’s largest arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary.
Established in the UK in 1998, Refugee Week takes place every year around World Refugee Day (20th June) and has since grown into a global movement with over 2 million participants, across over 20 countries.
