DLL is celebrating after Ruthin Craft Centre has been awarded the 2026 Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council (DVSC) award for Promoting Welsh Culture & Heritage.

The team at Ruthin Craft Centre received the award in a ceremony held at Ruthin Craft Centre on Friday 5th June, for establishing their Volunteer Gallery Invigilation Scheme as part of the CELF National Contemporary Art Gallery for Wales initiative.

Ruthin Craft Centre is one of nine galleries across Wales who were selected to be part of the prestigious scheme, which is a method of ensuring the national collections of contemporary art in Wales can be enjoyed by everybody.   Through an extensive loans programme from the National Museum in Cardiff and the National Library in Aberystwyth, collections are showcased at different venues across Wales, allowing people to explore the collections within their own localities.

The Volunteer Gallery Invigilation scheme was introduced in March 2025 to assist with CELF exhibitions throughout the year. Invigilators create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for visitors, ensure they have any resources or information relating to the exhibition, keep a watchful eye over artwork and exhibition materials, and record visitor feedback.

The DVSC hosts their annual Volunteer Awards to celebrate the dedication and impact of volunteers across the county. The awards also help to celebrate Volunteers Week, which takes place during the first week of June, and highlight the hard work of individuals who contribute to their local communities.

Jamie Groves, DLL Managing Director said “DLL has always been committed to providing the best possible customer experience to anyone visiting our venues, and Ruthin Craft Centre is no exception.  The invigilator programme has proved to be extremely successful at raising awareness and increasing understanding of the Arts and the standard of commitment from our volunteer invigilators has exceeded our expectations on all fronts.  We are very proud to receive this DVSC award, as our invigilators are such an excellent example of the benefits volunteers can bring to any organisation.”
