Who are ‘Active Communities’?
Our busy Active Communities team have the wellbeing of Denbighshire’s residents and visitors at heart. As individuals they have a wealth of experience in their own sectors, and together they combine their skills to offer a varied programme of high quality, inclusive leisure opportunities. Our Active Communities programme is designed to attract high levels of participation and improve the wellbeing of all those involved.
Community Health
Our team of Community Health specialists offer a range of programmes to help people who need additional support to become active, improve their wellbeing and maintain their independence. Programmes include ;
- National Exercise Referral Scheme
- DSW Health Disability Sport Pathway
Community Sport
Our Community Sport programmes deliver a targeted approach to increasing participation levels and encouraging the whole community to become more active. Enjoying sport within your local community can help to reduce social isolation, increase wellbeing and ensure that communities remain connected.

Denbighshire Community Awards
Each year, Denbighshire Leisure Ltd hosts the Denbighshire Community Awards, a celebration of sporting, arts and community achievement for individuals, teams and clubs across the county. Nominations are made online and shortlists are then compiled for this high profile event, which takes place each autumn.
Community Arts
Our Community Arts programmes work to promote, support and develop multi arts activity (visual arts and crafts, dance, drama, music and film) in our communities and provides opportunities for everyone to participate in the arts regardless of experience, age or background. Through working with a wide range of partners from public and third sector organisations to community groups across the fields of health and wellbeing, education and regeneration, the work addresses the priorities set out in the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015.
