1891 restaurant and bar closed until further notice after significant water damage at Rhyl Pavilion
The 1891 Restaurant and Bar, including the Terrace, will be closed until further notice after the main water tank in the Rhyl Pavilion burst in the early hours of the morning.
Denbighshire Leisure Ltd managers attended the scene in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday, 7th July, to find 1891 restaurant and bar severely damaged by water.
Jamie Groves, Managing Director of Denbighshire Leisure Ltd, said: “To say we are devastated by what has happened to our beautiful flagship 1891 restaurant, would be an understatement. This is right before our busiest season, and following the opening of the new Terrace. We invested heavily into this Summer to bring people the best possible experience in Rhyl, and we had more planned to announce over the coming weeks with work almost finished on a new VIP bar lounge and a further extension planned for the new Terrace.
“The management and the entire workforce are completely deflated by this news. Specialists are being brought to assess the damage but it’s safe to say, building will be closed for the foreseeable future due to the extent of damage to the infrastructure and the first floor restaurant.”
Councillor Hugh Evans, Leader of Denbighshire County Council, said: “I am saddened to hear this news and devastated for the team at Denbighshire Leisure Ltd after all the recent investments ahead of what was planned to be an incredibly busy Summer. Denbighshire County Council will do all they can in supporting the company in getting this iconic destination in Rhyl open again as soon as possible.”
Jamie added: “We would like to thank all of our customers for their understanding at this time, and we will be contacting all bookings directly today. Whilst we are all extremely upset, we can assure our customers that efforts will now move to making sure the 1891 Restaurant and Bar comes back bigger and better than ever. We will keep you updated via our website and social media channels.”
