The inaugural Active Communities’ Awards will celebrate the sporting and cultural excellence of Denbighshire. The event will take place in November 2023 at Rhyl Pavilion Theatre.

This is a prestigious event, celebrating our community of Denbighshire and the people who live here. The focus will be on those that have made a difference or achieved something in sport or activity, arts and culture.

Over 400 guests, including residents, partners and local businesses will be attending this major event at the Pavilion Theatre, Rhyl alongside all nominees and their families.

Award Categories

Volunteer of the Year

An individual or group of volunteers, of any age, who have made a contribution to the community of Denbighshire within a sporting or cultural environment. This person will have demonstrated a commitment to an unpaid activity.

 Primary School of the Year

A Denbighshire school that puts being active, sporting opportunities and/or creative arts activities at the heart of the school and community and who recognises the contribution these activities have in promoting positive wellbeing.

Secondary School of the Year

A Denbighshire school that puts being active, sporting opportunities and/or creative arts activities at the heart of the school and community and who recognises the contribution these activities have in promoting positive wellbeing.

Sport Coach of the Year

A Denbighshire coach of any age who has demonstrated outstanding coaching skills and contributed to sporting opportunities and/or success from grassroots to excellence.

Sport Club of the Year

A Community Club in Denbighshire that has demonstrated excellence in management, development and competition throughout the club.

Best Arts in Health Project

Any Denbighshire project delivered in a community, health, social care or school setting that successfully supported the health and wellbeing of the participants using creative tools such as art, music, drama, dance or creative writing.

Best Community Creative Project

Any Denbighshire project delivered to support community cohesion through creative participation in any art form.

Active Workplace of the Year

A local Denbighshire business that has gone the extra mile to support their employees’ physical and mental wellbeing by encouraging them to be active and or creative e.g. work choir, knitting club, football team, lunchtime walks.

Young Inspiration

An inspirational young person aged 25 or younger (on the 1st November 2023) who has contributed through a school, community or both to help develop sporting or cultural  opportunities that promote mental health and wellbeing in Denbighshire.

Excellence Award – Young Person

Award to recognise a young person aged 25 or younger (on the 1st November 2023) living in Denbighshire, who has exhibited the highest level of skill, performance, dedication and commitment to their sport or art form during Jan 2022 to July 2023.

Excellence Award – Adult

Award to recognise a Denbighshire resident aged 26 and over, who has exhibited the highest level of skill, performance, dedication and commitment to their sport or art form during Jan 2022 to July 2023.

Lifetime Achievement

An individual that has dramatically improved the sporting or cultural environment within Denbighshire for a sustained period of 15 years or more.
